Chapter One Lily stood in the doorway of her once-shared bedroom, her heart pounding in her chest. The room, now stripped of any personal belongings, felt cold and empty. She took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves. This was it. The moment she had been dreading and anticipating in equal measure. She was finally leaving Mark, her controlling and jealous husband of five years. As she picked up her suitcase, she couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt. She knew Mark would be devastated, but she couldn't continue living a life devoid of love and happiness.

Calista replied, holding her phone firmly while walking out of her portable office in the coffee shop. The coffee shop, named "Cal's Brew," was a cozy and inviting space with warm wooden floors and large windows that let in plenty of natural light. The walls were adorned with local artwork and shelves filled with books and plants. Soft ambient music played in the background, creating a relaxed atmosphere. Comfortable seating arrangements, including plush armchairs and wooden tables, provided a perfect spot for customers to unwind or catch up on work. All this was put in place by Anthony. A sly smile cut across her face; owning something felt right.

Viola McCoy The coffee here isn’t great. It’s bitter, watery, and the barista always forgets the extra cinnamon, but it’s convenient. Just one floor down from Reynolds Publishing and close enough that I can sneak in between manuscript edits and meetings with Adrian. I’m stirring my cup with the tiny wooden stick when I hear them. Two women. Glossy hair, perfect nails, lanyards around their necks that mark them as part of today’s author spotlight event in the bookstore upstairs.

I could not believe that he was asking me that. “Neither at this moment, I must say. But since you will be buying a lot for us, I would like that you get some discount. Moreover, those are second hand books. They are definitely preserved in a marvelous manner, which will make it a lot better for your nieces. So hence the discount,” I replied and he nodded. I knew that my answer was not up to the mark but I could not herald him with high hopes. “Come with me. First I would like to show you the books. You can take a look in the contents and then you might decide and make your choice,” I said as he came with me. Then he said,” You guys also have a café here in with the bookstore, right?”

I’m just debating between these two books, ' I said pensievely. ‘Get them both, I’ll pay’ he offered. ‘Uhm, no you will not’ I sternly replied, ‘You have done more than enough for me already on this trip’. ‘Well, I’ll buy one for you then’ ‘No’. I finished simply. I decided to keep Julia Child’s Book of wisdom. I paid for my book that the clerk stamped with their signature seal. I slipped the book into a canvas bag with the store’s logo I had also purchased. I was excited to start reading my new book. Sasha led me to a café buying us each a cup of coffee and some pastries. We walked the streets for a while before heading back to our hotel in a taxi.

I don't like to ask her help to find coffee powder so I searched for it, opening all the doors. “Here.” she pushed the coffee powder jar to me. That is it. “Excuse me? Your behavior is not nice. I don't like you.” I told her. She is outrageous. I made coffee and took it to our floor. When I went there Arjun was already ready with his green formal shirt and black pants. I just wish to jump on him and kiss him senseless now. “Arjun, Coffee.” I went into the room. “Put it there and come here.” He called me. I went to him and swung me in front of him caging me between his arms.

Tio handed him the drink. Rafael murmured his thanks and took a grateful gulp. Lucinda winced. He always drank his coffee very hot. Like a punishment. This should stop. He should stop punishing himself for the things he had no control over. Especially with what happened in the past. After two cups of hot beverage and five chocolate croissants, his attention was back on them. "Where is she?" El Patron's deep gravelly voice filled the room. The shadows outside the open windows filled the room, giving their hijo a menacing aura making him formidable and dangerous. But not to them. They were family.

He was ready for the day to be over. "You really drink this shit and call it coffee?" Tracey's voice echoed from the front of the store. Selby froze and glanced to where she would be, except several rows of shelves blocked his view. He should have known that she would come to him if he didn't go to her. The day had just been so chaotic that he hadn't had time to think. Now, he was out of time. He placed the books casually on the shelf and made his way up front. "There is no such thing as bad coffee, only better."
