Slapshot Awakening

We keep going, cycling through more drills. Speed work, breakouts, and shooting practice. The sound of skates, sticks and pucks fills the air. There's a steady rhythm of the game sinking into my bones.
This is home, this is what belonging feels like. This is what I do and what I know. I don't have to think here, I don't have to overanalyze every touch, move or glance.
Still though, my mind flickers back to the rink this morning. To Jaxon, and the way his body tilted too far on that landing. My mind goes to the way I had to steady him, and hold him up.
