At a certain juncture, I reached a breaking point and let out a scream. "Ahhhhhhh!" For the first time, my thoughts started to become less clear. My eyes were blurry as a result of the discomfort, and I passed out as a result of the excruciating pain. Nah, I discovered myself in another lucid dream. How irritating. I despised these kinds of nightmares since they constantly prevented me from sleeping well. My mind continued to spiral out of control, turning everything into a prison that compelled me to confront and repent of all that had happened.

LUCY I was in and out of this weird dream. Astrid and I were little girls, not werewolves, just humans, two little girls utterly oblivious to the dangers lurking around every corner. We were playing on the swings. Skipping rocks on the pond near, I don't even remember a pond where we grew up. I felt hot and cold, and I kept seeing a baby being snatched from a screaming woman after labour. She looked familiar, but I didn't know her. I wanted to help the women. The dream faded in and out until I heard a voice bring me back to reality.

Her heart skipped a few breaths. “Was it really him? It was Uzair. Wasn't it?” She was doubtful and still somewhat in the middle of sleep. The vivid dream felt so weird as if she actually lived all of it. She breathed in and out as different sorts of scenarios dismayed her even further than she already was. “Why does the dream feel like it was real if I was actually lucid dreaming?” She was barely able to shake her head to let an amount of overflowing thoughts get aside. It was unnerving her.

Chapter 28 - Infection The familiar sparks were what continued to bring me back to consciousness as we raced through the fields. I could hear the shouts of everyone around me but was too out of it to understand anything they were saying. The constant sound of a beating heart was the only thing that really confirmed I was still here. I began to have lucid dreams, my body overheating as it fought whatever infection was trying to take hold. I felt my body shiver as blackness pulled me under once again.

No noise of any kind broke the complete stillness of the woods. He’d never been aware while dreaming before, but it had been a strange night all around, so what was one more weird thing to add to the pile? He remembered hearing someone say that if you could lucid dream, you could make yourself do things, like breathe underwater, or fly. He mused over it a moment, then took two running steps before leaping into the air . . . and falling to the ground with a thump. Twigs and leaves dug into his cheek as he fell on his face.

Only a few old structures looked familiar. "Now what? Uber? This era has got Uber, right?" I said. "With what?" Randy asked. "If this is a dream, can't we control it with our minds?" "You mean, lucid dreaming?" "Yeah, why not?" "Worth a shot, but it might be risky." Controlling dreams was tricky, especially in this weird shared one. We tried standing still, focusing, but nothing happened. Lucid dreaming didn't work here. I gave up. "Let's just walk. We'll find it."
