She shielded her face from the heat, her heart pounding as Ethan weakly raised his head. “Sasha… run…” he rasped, his voice barely audible. “I’m not leaving you!” she shouted, tears streaming down her face. The ground trembled, and a deep, guttural laugh filled the chamber. Sasha spun around, her blood running cold as the shadowy creature from before emerged from the darkness, its form now larger and more menacing. “You didn’t think it would be that easy, did you?” the creature sneered, its glowing eyes fixed on her.

Lucian reached his hand out as he stepped closer. I swallowed thickly, took his hand, and gently squeezed it. “Thank you.” Lucian stepped back and nodded at Grayson. Grayson turned back to the microphone. “Midnight Moon pack, I give you our newest shifter, our hellhound, Shade.” I looked at Azalea, and she flashed me a beautiful smile. I winked, and her smile widened. I took a deep breath, looked forward, and as I stepped forward, shade came to the surface and shifted.

Its claws raked the earth where we had just been standing, carving grooves deep enough to leave the soil trembling. “Now!” Arden shouted. I followed his movement instinctively. We darted toward the ruined cabin, branches slapping against our faces, leaves brushing my arms, the Shade’s whispers tearing through my mind like cold knives. Nira tossed a small vial toward the creature—it shattered, releasing a silver mist that curled around the Shade. It hissed, recoiling slightly, but didn’t stop.

Her red and black scaly body, her soft violet eyes with a slash in the middle that looked like a doorway to her soul, her soft purr. "Oh, I won’t mind riding that dragon...” Shade said with a moan, and I chuckled, shaking my head. On a normal day, my dragon was usually the most level-headed creature, but with Vera and her dragon, Shade seemed to be losing his shit, too, more so than me.
