Chapter 26: The Guardian of Shadows As Katherine and her fellowship breached the walls of the citadel, they found themselves face to face with a powerful adversary: the Guardian of Shadows, a towering figure clad in black armor and wielding a sword of pure darkness. "You dare to challenge me?" the Guardian growled, his voice echoing through the cavernous halls of the citadel. "You are nothing but insects, insignificant specks in the face of my power." Katherine stood firm, her sword at the ready. "We may be small, but together we are mighty," she said, her voice ringing with defiance. "We will not let you destroy our world."

At 5'10", her presence commanded attention, but she preferred to stay unnoticed. Her dark skin glowed under the morning sun, and her eyes, a striking shade of amber, held secrets untold. She pulled her hood tighter, hoping to shield herself from the prying eyes she could already feel on her. She sighed, remembering the last town, the last school, the last narrow escape. The coven was always a step behind her, their sinister intentions cloaked in shadow but ever-present. She couldn’t afford to grow attached, couldn’t afford to make friends or enemies. But she knew this routine all too well. Blend in, keep your head down, and move on before anyone gets too close.

We can see through the darkness luckily because so can Bane and his men apparently and they advance as soon as the fog covers the whole area. ‘Now Tristan.’ I mindlink our Beta, and he howls from somewhere to my left. Shadow rubs his head against Dawn, and she reciprocates his affection before the first rogue is over us. Shadow takes him down without a hitch, tearing his throat out. Another rogue comes at us and Dawn makes short progress, killing him as well, throwing his body into an advancing Bane.

It feels like he was being cut and clawed from inside out. Keith and a few Hunters and Huntresses cried out loud as the Shadows they were told to fight were beginning to fall on the ground unexpectedly. The glowing flame on their chest disappearing into nothing. The young man crouched down as well as the others. The men and women screamed as their hands flew up to their heads — as if they’re having an inner battle. Xaphar, a Hunter from the nameless village approached Keith, taking one cautious step after another. “Malakeith?”

She's dangerous. "She's the one that's helping Josiah. He knows that I'm here." I say. "Tessa. You're the only one that can stop her." Angelo says. "I don't understand. I can't fight that." I say. "Yeah. You can. But not right now." He says throwing a bottle of something at the shadows. When it smashed on the ground it released a pink mist that made the shadows retreat. "What was that stuff?" I asked. "I have friends that are witch's too." He says.

She started putting on her own clothes. "I promise to see you soon." I squeezed her hand in mine. She came closer to me and kissed my lips softly. Her touch against my body made me want to undress her and go another round but I couldn't, not with the watchful eyes of shadow on us. She turned around and left. "So shall we?" Shadow asked. "Do you mind enlightening me on how you two met?" I asked as we started down the road. "Just like you and me." He smiled. "I am a shadow alpha, a shadow that goes wherever it pleases."

Alex replied with an emotionless face, doing as if he didn't notice the gunpowder in the air between his two subordinates. "Shadow, do you think we will find them here?" Alex asked in his head. "Yes, I have 80% assurance that we will find a clue of their whereabouts" Shadow's voice sounded in Alex's mind. The man in Shadow has hidden in a spatial artifact that Alex owned. Alex smiled and said, "Let's see where they could be hiding."

Liam in front, every line of his body screaming touch them and I end you. Ash Ridge peeled off at the treeline with nods and rumbling promises to “check in soon.” Frostfang flowed like ghosts back toward the north path, their Alpha calling sweetly over her shoulder, “Send word when your real Alpha’s on his feet. I want front-row seats for round two.” Hallowmere melted away into mist and long coats, already whispering among themselves. Ironclaw stayed clustered at Hollow Creek, fuming and humiliated and papering rage over panic. Gunner stood shaking with fury in the mud and watched Silverveil take back what he thought he’d stolen.

Almost there. But as she neared the exit, a large shadow emerged from behind a stack of old wooden crates blocking her path. A man stepped out of the darkness with unnerving calmness, as if he had been waiting for her there all along. Claire stopped so suddenly she nearly stumbled. Her eyes went wide as she recognized the figure standing before her. "Arthur?" Her voice came out hoarse, barely audible.
