I couldn't stop coughing, the itching in my throat relentless, until I finally tossed the lilies in the trash. Just then, Hector walked in, his face darkening with anger.
"What's your problem? Emma brought you those flowers to show she cares, and this is how you respond?"
Emma quickly stepped in, feigning concern. "Hector, don't be so harsh on her."
"Sienna doesn't like them? Then throw them out," she said with a sympathetic smile. "She just lost a baby; it's normal to be a bit sensitive."
