With a smile, he brought the cupcake toward her lips. Caught off guard, Beatrice ended up with chocolate and cream smeared across her face. Maxwell panicked and reached out to wipe it off. But before he could, Beatrice suddenly stepped back, as if he were some kind of dangerous creature. "Enough!" she snapped. Maxwell froze, his eyes instantly brimming with tears. "What's the matter, Ms. Thorne? You weren't like this before." Beatrice took a deep breath. Just as she was about to speak, she noticed the curious glances from her business partners.

She reached out and grabbed Emily’s shoulder, spinning her around, ignoring the yellow hair that slapped into her own face. “Given up?” Beatrice yelled, tears of rage spangling her vision. “Why wouldn’t I? This is for me, don’t you get it? All of this is to get me here, so The Dark Heart can end me!” Emily knocked Beatrice’s hand away from her shoulder. “Maybe you should let it,” she spat, her own tears falling. “Then all of this would end, and there would be no one left to care.”
