Instead, I nodded slowly. “Fine.” She studied me. “Where will you go?” “Anywhere but here.” “That’s not an answer.” “I don’t owe you details.” A faint smile touched her lips. “No. You don’t.” She walked toward the door, then paused. “He will try to reach you.” “I won’t answer.” She opened the door but looked back one last time. “Harden your heart if you must, Nyla. But don’t let it turn you into someone you don’t recognize.”

Chloe's lips curled into a strange smile. Her expression was innocent as she said, "Helen, what are you talking about? I don't understand.
