I gritted out through a pulsing jaw—the more my molars grated together, the more stable I felt.
Miles turned off the mic and disengaged the camera feed, “I’m only trying to help. I don’t know what’s been going on with you these few weeks but you seem more…”
He trailed off, unable to look at me directly so he opted to glare at a spot in the wall above my head. Miles wore his shame like a cloak soaked through by the rain—heavy, clinging, and impossible to forget.
“More what?” I pressed, urging him to complete his statement as I pushed to my feet.
