Mirelle “Oh goodness lord,” My hands trembled as I clutched the summons letter, the black wax seal broken but its weight still crushing me. Nocturne. The name alone sent chills down my spine, a whispered curse in the underbelly of the city where debts were not paid in money but in flesh. I, Mirelle Kane, had borrowed from the wrong people. A desperate loan to save my mother's medical bills, and now the collectors demanded repayment in the most intimate way possible. One night at Nocturne, where I would be auctioned to the highest bidder, my body the currency to settle the score.

I was definitely putting the cart before the horse. As soon as I dropped Charlie off at Middle School Wednesday morning I headed home. My heart was already beating a little faster thinking about lunchtime. Sandy was coming over! I'll admit I didn't get a lot done on what I was working on, although it was definitely better than that horrid manual had been. This was an anthology of short stories from an independent publishing house that I'd worked for before, with all the authors under twenty-four years old. The clock seemingly was moving at a glacial pace, but eventually my phone chimed.

Oswan asked. “In what are you interested?” Ortaul said. “I'm interest in anything new in the world, so nothing in particular.” “Listen then, my boy. Creates have appeared from out of nowhere.” “Creatures, you say, what kind?” “The worst, I say! Their teeth are sharp as swords; their eyes are red as blood.” “We saw them.” “Where did you?” “Not much down the road, near the miller.” “Great, finally, we can kill them.”

Chapter 1 Tyna POV "Scott, please, I really need that signature on my project report. It's due tomorrow, and without it, I can't pass this semester." My voice came out shaky as I stood in the dim basement of the boys' hostel, the air thick with the smell of stale beer and old carpet. The room was lit by a single hanging bulb, casting long shadows over the mismatched furniture—a beat-up couch, a coffee table littered with empty cans, and three guys lounging like they owned the place.

He gestured toward the narrow aisle between fiction and children’s books. “Storage wasted on that back room. And don’t get me started on the courtyard out back. Prime square footage doing nothing but growing weeds.” Before she could fire back, the kids started filing in for storytime, backpacks thumping as they dropped onto the colorful rug. Elena shot him a warning look and moved to the front. She picked up *The Adventures of Benny the Bookworm*, her voice shifting into the warm, animated tone she used for the little ones.

Chapter 1 Jax’s POV. Late afternoon light slanted through the floor-to-ceiling windows of my bedroom, turning the whole place into a fucking furnace even with the AC humming. I was sprawled shirtless on my king bed in nothing but loose gray shorts, the new script for Raw Exposure open on my lap, and my cock was already rock-hard and leaking like a desperate slut just from reading the first few pages.

It doesn't help that we just had to turn the clocks back an hour for daylight saving, so now it’s already dark at five o’clock in the evening. Jon's Auto Shop is one of only two shops in the small town of Randleman, North Carolina. This is where I grew up and have lived my entire life. I want to leave, but I have nothing to leave for. I'm twenty-three, 5'5" with shoulder-length golden brown hair and hazel eyes. I'm not bad to look at in my opinion, but when all the eligible bachelors are men you've grown up with, it kind of decreases the options in the dating pool.

Short terrifying stories that leave you insomnolent . . . definitely a must read to while away time and get sleepless with fear, hahaha. I don't own any of this stories.
