I bit my bottom lip, as I already knew the answer. Blair shook her head. “I don’t like fire, Dada.” “I knew that already. Why did I even offer that?” He let out a breath.

I told him. “Let’s go in so you can tell me about what you found that has you so excited,” I told her, and we entered the house. Once Davian and I had settled down, Ria passed her tablet to me, and I went through the pictures and videos with a wide grin that grew with each slide. “That’s what we need to bring down Blair for good. If we publish this, she will take a great hit to her career, and there is no coming back from this.” Ria said with a smug smile.

Blaize realized what she’s staring at so he gave it to her. “You dropped this. You were so deep in thought that you hardly notice.” He said and then glanced down at the notepad. It has been flipped into the first page. “List of games ---” Jade grabs the notepad harshly and glared at him, not letting him finish what he was about to read. She scoffed. “Didn’t someone tell you not to read into other people’s stuff? Ever heard of privacy?” She snapped and hid the notepad in her pockets.

Blaire threatened, and I was surprised. “This is an act of ill faith and should automatically sever the deal between us,” one said, and I could hear the underlying anger in his tone. “Yes, our leader should have never made this deal with you,” the other added. “You won’t be sending word to Borel without my permission, neither will you be leaving here to do so,” Blaire said coldly. “You should remember, you’re only here as collateral—not a necessity. I could’ve locked you up, starved you for days. Hell, I could torture you—as long as I keep you alive,” Blaire warned.

Kaiden muttered, his eyes fixed on the back of the guard, watching for any sign he might turn around. “We need to find a way out of here and make a run for it before we reach the destination,” she said, her mind running through every scenario she could think of. Soon enough, she settled on one, though she wasn’t sure it would work out as cleanly as it did in her head. “Do you think you can pull off a shield spell?” Blair asked Kaiden, glancing at him briefly. He shrugged. “Don’t know. It’s been a while, and I’m a bit rusty. But I’m sure I can pull it off,” Kaiden responded, though not as confidently as he once would have. Blair, however, had no choice but to hope he could manage it.
