He extended his hand, and Alex walked to him. “We were raised as enemies,” Brian said. “Stepbrothers forced under one roof. But fate had other plans.” Whispers rippled through the crowd as Alex took his place beside him, fingers slipping into Brian’s. “I loved him before I understood what the bond meant,” Alex added, voice steady. “And now that I do—I will never let him go.” The Unity Council, by vote, acknowledged the bond officially—naming them Life-Mates under the Blessing of the Moon.

I shrugged, “I’m just trying to rely on myself and the mate bond. He never stays with any of them. He doesn't do girlfriends. My older brother is a year ahead of me, and so is everyone sitting around the bonfire. He is one of the popular boys in the school, captain of the football team, and someone who has girls tripping over each other to have him just smile at them. It's pathetic. I don't walk around in the same social circle as my big brother. I'm not very social and would rather stay home on the weekends reading a book or watching horror movies with my best friend Sarah.

His older brother is a mirror image of him. “These are my parents, Felicia and Dan,” Brian says, as I shake their hands. “And this is my sisters, Diane and Ashley.” I remember that Diane is only 13 years old, while Ashley is my age. They both seem very friendly as I introduce myself to them. I can see us getting along. Our energies match each other’s. “And finally, my brother Peter,” he says. His older brother’s handshake is strong, and I can see that by the way he looks at Brian, he's protective of him. They're all very welcoming and I think I'll fit into their family well.
