His eyes skipped over the first letters and gloom washed over his face, he skipped through the papers as his eyes frantically studied the contents before shooting Gianna a look, “Wh…What is this?!!” She shrugged, “It’s exactly what you think it is.” “Come on Gianna- “It’s Miss Lawson.” “Fuck Miss Lawson, you’re my ex wife and I know you as Gianna so drop the bullshit formalities. I’m not signing this!” He yelled, finally letting go of the last reserve he had in him. “You will sign it Mr Santiago and you will sign it now!!” She fired back as she rose to her feet, “The last time I checked I was blindsided by our divorce, feels good to be at the other end doesn’t it??”

They hug us, congratulating us before we all sign the papers, making our marriage official. “You are stuck with me now,” Conall chuckles as we leave the courthouse, hand in hand. “I wouldn’t want it any other way, husband,” I coo, kissing his cheek. She signed the documents almost immediately, then she looked back at me. “I am done.” I took the papers from her slowly. And for the first time in a long time, something about all of this felt real to me. Amelia folded her arms and raised her eyebrow at me. “So what happens now?” I looked down at the signed papers before smirking slightly. I reached for my car keys from the table. “We will give these papers to your ex-husband.” I said. Her eyes widened at me. “Are you fucking serious?” “I am very serious, my love. I want to see his face personally when he realizes you are finally leaving him and that so called excuse of a marriage.” I said, watching her smile at me.

I throw the paper down at the coffee table in front of him before uttering determinately, “Sign them” He looked up at me then down at the papers for a few minutes, finding it hard to process what was just unfolding but I gave him as much time as he needed because at the end I know I am not leaving until we become officially divorced. “What?” He mumbled more to himself than to me after a long minutes of silence. He ran his hand through his hair, shaving his head as if to wake up from a dream before his eye landed on me. “Irene, why will you do that?” He asked in shock.

He dropped the envelope on the floor when he was done. “I’m. Not. Divorcing. You. Nicole.” He yelled and I had to block my ear from his loud voice. “You will Jackson. You will sign the divorce papers and end whatever sham of a marriage we have.” His eyes sparkled as he chuckled humorlessly. “There are no longer any papers to sign, so that means you are still very much my wife.” He said with a smile and I found myself smiling with him. “Good thing I didn’t come with one paper then,” I stopped packing and went inside the walk-in closet to get the second paper that had my signature.

I teased. She laughed and disappeared into the crowd, leaving me alone once more. I exhaled, scanning the room for a quiet corner where I could breathe. But before I could take another step, a familiar voice stopped me. A voice I hadn't heard in five years. "Gwen? Is that you?" I froze. A slow, dreadful chill crept up my spine, my fingers curling into fists at my sides. I knew that voice. I turned, and there he was. Lucas Grayford. My ex-husband.

“Huh?” I saw her face go through a series of expressions that I couldn’t even put my hands around. They only made laughter bubble in my throat. It moved from confusion to disbelief to doubt and then back to confusion. “How?” They’re enemies. Are you sure this signature isn’t fake?” “It’s a hundred percent real. I confirmed.” She sipped from her coffee and did a breathing exercise. “You mean to tell me that your soon-to-be husband who is your husband’s enemy managed to get him to sign just like that?”

He retorted and I squinted my eyes in confusion. What? What is he playing at now? “I didn't sign the divorce papers yet so technically, we're not divorced so you have no right Eryn. No right to go off with another man. You're technically still my wife.” The Irony. It was as though a whole circus show was being put together in his head and he was starring as the lead clown. A few weeks ago, he didn't give a shit. He didn't want to hear a word about me or Niko, whatsoever. And now, he was trying to remind me that I was his wife?
