Sketch Chapter 2 Novels & Stories

Carefully I took out the sketchbook to see the content of it. I went towards the balcony and flipped the pages. The first few pages had nothing specific in it. They looked like her futile attempts to draw something as she had tried to draw something but had covered half of the page with black paint as if she was having trouble painting whatever she wanted to. After around 10-12 pages I saw a sketch that had left me horrified. The sketch was beautiful, yet scary at the same time. It was a sketch of a girl trapped in a cage. She had depicted it so beautifully but the question was why did she draw something like that?

I nodded, “I would love that.” She handed a sketch pad to me. She had it open to reveal the page she wanted me to see. I was floored with the details that she had drawn. I asked, “How long did it take you to draw this? It’s very detailed.” Chloe answered, “It just took a few minutes. I draw fast when I have a vision. Do you like it?” I answered, “I love it! It’s perfect.”

That is for sure. I walk over to the drawer where he keeps his drawings and sketches. Of course, the first sketch I see is of Chloe. Chloe looking beautiful as ever. I walk over to his bed and I sit on it staring at the beautiful way he was able to get Chloe on paper. Flashback of me getting close to her in the woods resurfaces. Feeling her warm body close to me and hearing her breath so calmly. I drop the sketch on the bed and I place my hands on my face. I shake my head.

She drew women in flowing gowns, faces turned toward horizons she couldn't name, hands reaching for things just beyond the paper's edge. Each sketch was a small rebellion against the voice that had whispered for years that her dreams were selfish, impractical, and beneath her station as a Rourke wife.

She pulled out a notebook and a pen, placing it in front of me. “Alright, Da Vinci. Wow us.” I took the pen confidently, opened the book, and started sketching. My hand moved like it remembered something my brain didn’t. Curves. Layers. Details. I shaded it carefully and passed it back. They leaned over it, stared… and stared some more. No one said a word. I swallowed. “Is it… bad?” They glanced at each other. Sky cleared her throat. “Umm… you remember Picasso, right?”
