Miss Franklin is the little grey-haired lady who owned the store. It was more than just a small grocery store to this little town. It was also the gas station, video rental, and a deli-style sandwich shop.
Besides the bait shop and canoe rental next to the river two miles away, it was the only business in our town.
Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas is a tiny town in neutral territory.
It’s a town that has a great sense of community and it’s very close-knit.
My parents always told me they didn’t like being in their old pack because the alpha didn’t pay the omegas for their work and treated them like dirt.
They always told me that if I ever wanted to join a pack, make sure to ask if the omegas are paid.
That was a good way to tell if it was a good pack.
My parents were loving and doted on me, as the only child, but they never spoiled me.
As unaffiliated wolves, they couldn’t afford to.
We lived in a small house in a small town. My dad worked at the bait shop and my mom cleaned other people’s houses.
I would go with her on weekends and she always made cleaning fun.
Each time I finished a chore, she would let me know how proud she was of me.
I was a happy child with wonderful parents until one day… I wasn’t.
I would never forget that day.
That day, as I walked home with the groceries my mom wanted, a siren sounded and people started running.
I approached my house to find my mom standing on the porch yelling, “Zariah! Hide!”
“Mom,” I screamed. My hands involuntarily let go of the bag I was holding and the groceries spilled on the ground.
That was when a rogue jumped between my mother and me and my mom yelled, “Hey! You gotta go through me before you get to her!”
Another rogue stalked me beside the first one. I tried to hit him by throwing cans of ravioli at his head, but it only angered him.
When my mom yelled at them one more time, one of them turned and ran for her.
My mom started shifting, then my father’s black wolf tackled that wolf.
I was cheering for my dad until I saw an image that would haunt me for years.
I saw the rogue grab my father’s throat from underneath him and shake his head. He pulled back with a chunk of my dad’s throat in his mouth.
My dad fell to the ground, drowning in his own blood. He encouraged me through the family bond, “Zariah, go hide. I love you so much.”
I immediately heard my mom’s wolf howling in grief then the rogue ran at my mom.
I was frozen in fear as I watched the same rogue knock her to the ground, ripping down her stomach, disemboweling her.
“Never forget how much we loved you, baby girl.”
Those were the last words she said to me and words I would never forget.
Tears started falling down my cheeks.
Through my blurry vision, I could see the rogues approaching me.
As soon as they started growling, I found my footing and started running.
I ran to try to outrun my fear, my sadness and the horrid, stinking rogues who were covered in my parents’ blood.
Needless to say, my six-year-old legs didn’t get far before one caught up with me and knocked me to the ground.
He then ripped his claws across my stomach and down my chest.
Excruciating pain ripped through me as I laid in the street in a growing pool of my own blood and passed out.
I couldn’t say how long I was stuck in nothing but darkness.
Through the haze, I could hear the paramedics working who were working on me, “We need to hurry. We could lose her any time,” and another paramedic sighed, “She’s too young to go through all this.”
Through the searing pain, I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of loss. I honestly didn’t know if I wanted to live anymore.
After all, I was an orphan now.
Five years later, Isaac and I sat on our front porch, watching our kids and grandkids play football in the yard. Lena was visiting with us for a week and we were so happy to see her. Lena walked out of the house and pulled up a chair to join us, “Mom, do you regret adopting us first?” Isaac and I looked at her like she had three heads.I shook my head, “Absolutely not. You three were my light in one of the darkest times in my life. You saved me in more ways than one. You three were the reasons I wanted to try to have kids between us. I realized I had missed out on all of your baby months. I wanted to experience that.”Lena asked, “Really?” I nodded, “Really. I don’t know that I could have gotten through a lot of our earlier trials without you. You gave me reasons to live and laugh every day.” Lena smiled, “Thanks, guys. You guys chose us to love when you didn’t have to.” Isaac smiled, “We wouldn’t have done anything differently at all. We are so proud of you, your kids, and all of you
Ten years later, our oldest twins were almost sixteen while the older triplets had just turned fifteen. Blaine, Franco and Isaac have been training all of our oldest kids on weapons and fighting in their animal forms. We found out very early that Aadi’s and Franco’s children each have both wolf and eagle forms. My kids were jealous, but they knew that it’s all in Goddess’ plan. Our younger twins and triplets were training in combat and stealth with Heather, Alex and Axel. They were also learning their magic with Queen Winnie and her friend, a warlock named Billy. Our younger triplets were fourteen and our youngest twins were thirteen. They had been practicing their magic abilities for five years and were almost at expert level. Mia, our youngest twin, has oracle and omega abilities. She has visions and she also has the ability to calm large groups of people.Miles, Mia’s twin, has the ability of levitation. He pretty well had that mastered by age three. His favorite pastime was levita
Five years later, I sat in my wheelchair watching Heather train children with Former Gamma Axel. In just five years Aadi and I have accumulated a litter of pups. Joshua and Kyra are now five years old and so are Zayla and Ian. My triplets, Jason, Jaden and Jana, who were born just seven months later, are one month from being five. After Aadi had Zayla and Ian, she also had a set of triplets, Kevin, Kayla and Kade.Heather and Axel have their hands full just training them. They are all special wolves and have already shifted for the first time. However, they are also training Aadi’s five oldest with mine. I know for a fact that Selene is watching over our children because She has made sure Aadi and I have the same number of children. Our younger children will be training with Ben and Gamma Alex after these kids are done. We each had five more and that was where Aadi and I insisted to our mates that we stop. My younger triplets are Lakelyn, Lee and Lakota. They are three years old while
Heather went to put on a set of hospital scrubs while I tried to rest a bit more. Isaac cooed, “Love, you are so tough. I know I wouldn’t be able to go through all that you are going through to give our babies a chance at life.” I smiled, “I couldn’t do it without you here with me.”When Heather walked back into the room, she took one look at me and went to the sink. She wet a cloth with ice cold water and handed it to Isaac, “Dad, things will start getting really tough for mom and she is going to start sweating. Put this on the back of her neck. It will help to cool her off.” My mate looked upon our daughter with so much pride as he linked me, “She’s going to enjoy being our boss for a little while; isn’t she?” I responded in the link, “Yep and she has earned that right.”One hour later, Heather checked me and looked at me with wide eyes, “Mom, don’t push until we tell you to. I need to get Doctor Brawn.” Heather left us for a minute and returned shortly after with my doctor, both wea
Good Goddess! I felt so huge! I was eight months pregnant and on strict bedrest. I was so sick of watching TV, working from my laptop in bed, and I felt alone. That’s another thing; my emotions were all over the place. I could not seem to get control of them. Come to think of it, that could be why everyone is staying away from me.One month prior, my doctor decided that she would start seeing me at home because she didn’t want to see me out of bed at all, except to use the restroom and shower. As soon as the doctor told us she would start this, Isaac bought an ultrasound machine to keep at our home so we would always have it here. This morning, she was coming for my weekly appointment and I was not comfortable at all.My lower back had been spasming all morning and I was afraid something was going on with my kidneys. By the time my doctor arrived, I had started sweating to keep Isaac from noticing my pain. Isaac followed the doctor into our room and he noticed my expression immediately
When I woke up, my mate was standing over me, trying to wake me up. I asked, “What time is it?” He chuckled, “It’s time for supper.” I furrowed my brow, “But I just ate lunch.” He laughed, “Were you visiting with the Goddess?” I nodded, “I got a lot of answers too.” He smiled, “That’s good. Why don’t you get ready for supper?” I nodded and held out my arms. He bent down to kiss me and I asked, “Will you help me into my chair? It’s just faster that way.”After getting ready, I went to the kitchen to see that everyone was waiting for me… including Blaine and Elizabeth. I smiled, “Oh my goddess! It’s so good to see you two!” I went to them and gave each of them a big hug, “I missed you two!” Blaine smiled, “I missed you too, mom. It’s weird; we’re all in the same pack but we never see each other.” I sighed, “You see your dad every day.”Blaine sighed, “Mom, that’s for work. But I do ask dad how you and Heather are.” I smirked, “I understand, son. I’m just giving you a hard time. You need
