Every instinct screams at me to turn back to the safety of the bridge. The canopies of the remaining pods suddenly open, exposing my companions still in hibernation, utterly unaware of the impending danger. The monitors have either malfunctioned, or this is a safety device. I force myself not to panic as my breathing becomes labored from the lack of oxygen. I have almost reached Beth. She stares up at me, and I can see relief in her eyes. There is no time to consider the consequences. I rip out her tubes and remove the restraints. Globular clusters of blood and fluid float upward to the widening fracture and disappear. Beth stretches out a hand, “Skye, help me,” she whispers.

"If I am going to win against him, I need to learn from the source.” Skye told herself with a deep breath as she looked at the building in front of her. The Sturm Headquarters looked nothing like Skye had imagined. When people heard the words motorcycle club, they probably pictured a run-down garage on the edge of town with rusting bikes and men looking for trouble. Instead, the building before her was enormous.

Why did I suddenly feel so vulnerable when it came to him? The next week, I received another surprise from him. This time, it was a small book, wrapped in simple brown paper. The note attached simply read, "You mentioned it once. I thought you might enjoy it." The book was a classic—a novel I’d mentioned, not in depth, but in passing during a late-night crew chat. Axel signaled him to come nearer and sit in front of him. “What’s your name and rank?” “I-I’m Sky... and I’m a Psi,” he meekly muttered, pushing his glasses up. Axel understandingly nodded.
