Groaning, I toss the novel in hand to the side, and lay on my back, staring at the ceiling. My phone vibrates beside me, and I grab the mobile, lifting it to my gaze. It's a text from Lucy. LUCY: I'm having the fucking best time of my life! Ralph is a fucking good kisser, Ashley! When I tell you, I had to restrain myself from taking it further. God, I can't wait to tell you everything tomorrow. Chuckling, I lay on my tummy as I type back a reply. ASHLEY: Calm your tits, you horny fucker! I can't wait to hear how this one went.

The light from the streetlights outside penetrated through the gaps of the curtains. Why was it so late? Wasn't I having a coffee with Lucy earlier? I jumped out of bed and walked to the window. Outside, the snow was slowly melting. A strange nausea seized me. When I saw the snow in front of me, the first thing that came to my mind was Aaron. For some reason, I felt a strong desire to share this point of view with him.

“You mean—Zaphyr?” Lucy nodded slowly. “He’s grown soft and sentimental. I’ve been patient for months, Crystal. But this? This is our moment. If we kill Zaphyr, I take control of White Snow. You get your full army, I make the Shadow Blood alliance permanent, and we march to crush the Star Raiders and Elena together.” The silence in the room stretched, thick and dangerous. I sat down slowly, heart pounding. “You’d kill your mate?” Lucy didn’t flinch. “He was never truly mine. Just a means to an end.”

A gust of cold air mixed with snow, blended with a scent of cedarwood pheromones that was once etched into my bones but now only made me sick, rushed in violently. Lucifer's hand on my hair paused slightly. He turned his head slowly, his charming eyes instantly narrowing, a flash of cold killing intent passing through them. I froze for a moment too. The hot cocoa in my hand shook, spilling a few drops onto the back of my hand. I turned my head slowly to look at the door. The man covered in snow, eyes bloodshot, looking as wretched as a beggar. Lucas. Time seemed to stand still at this moment.

The mere thought sent a shiver down my spine, like icy tendrils snaking their way through my veins. Lucian had always maintained an enigmatic and distant aura, a solitary figure who kept his distance from the rest of us, myself included. His coldness had become synonymous with his identity. But now, with Alyssa's revelation that Lucy and Lucian had embarked on a journey together, my mind couldn't help but wander to the peculiar dynamic between them. What were they looking for? The snow looked more like – Jane couldn't think of a good way to describe it. "A white fury – raving – blind," Lucy said, as if to herself. Yes, that was what it looked like, all right. Jane wondered if Lucy had gotten the letter yet about "Snow Bird". It should be coming in the mail any day now. But Jane hoped that the snow had delayed the mail delivery and even better the letter got lost. She made herself focus on the science experiment instead. As usual, Jane lit the Bunsen burner. The snowstorm raging outside made the classroom seem bright and safe, almost cozy.

Lucy’s POV The air stung my skin like wicked thorns. My breath came in short, hard gasps. I could taste the cold in my mouth. “Lucy, breathe,” Xandra whispered beside me. Her teeth were shaking. Her lips were almost blue. “I’m trying,” I said, my voice shaking as much as my body. The early snow beneath our shoes crunched with every step. The wind blew against our faces and cut through our clothes like it wanted to rip us open. I could feel my fingers going numb.

Even as Jenny lay in bed that night, she had her mind set on what the next day would bring. Her eyes were on the ceiling, but she saw nothing of the shadows that lay there whenever the lights were turned off. All she had her mind on was seeing if this Lycan was the one who saved her, the Stranger.

With the kind of authority that doesn’t need to be earned, it just is. Noah, on the other hand, was always the warm light to Lucian’s cold shadow. Where Lucian was guarded, Noah was open. Where Lucian walked with silence, Noah filled the air with laughter. Being around Noah felt like breathing fresh spring air; being around Lucian feels like walking a tightrope – steady, focused, always one misstep away from falling. Lucian never scared me because he was cruel. He scared me because I could never quite figure him out. And deep down, I still don’t know if that’s fear… or fascination.
