I'm suddenly distracted from my thoughts by the sounds of the group of seniors who've decided to come for an early bird swim. They're acting like kids, splashing each other and betting on who can hold their breath longer. I have to hold in my laughter when a bronzed older man in maroon shorts and a blue swimming cap declares that he's the winner by default because he has COPD. The others protest good-naturedly, lightening the mood. I sit up and adjust my oversized sunglasses. It's hard to keep my eyes off their antics. They're cute and their carefree attitudes make me smile, which is kinda nice. The first time I've smiled in the past four hours I think.
