The conversation died on his tongue.
"Look at you, my dear," Eleanor Sterling said from the head of the table, her sharp eyes softening with rare approval. "Emerald is definitely your color, Sienna. Sit next to Alec."
Sienna walked over with steady steps, though her knees felt like water beneath the long silk skirt. Alec stepped forward, his expression returning to its cold, composed mask, and pulled her chair out for her. As she sat, his fingers grazed the bare skin of her shoulder. The touch was warm, firm, and deliberate, sending a sudden shiver through her spine that made her breath hitch.
