“But if you fail, Elias won’t just take him. He’ll take you too.” Selene didn’t flinch. “Then I won’t fail.” She knelt in front of Ronan, pressing her palms to either side of his face. His skin burned under her touch, darkness pulsing through him like a living thing. “Ronan,” she whispered. “Come back to me.” His body tensed. “I know you can hear me. I know you’re fighting.” His breathing hitched. Selene drew in a sharp breath, reaching deeper. She didn’t just see Ronan’s body—she saw the pieces of his soul tangled in shadows, struggling to break free.

I muttered to myself. I stared at the mirror, looking at the woman, I have become and married him for something precious and not this. Loving wealth, fame, power and still do my thing normally, that's my goal. Suffering became part of me when I was growing up. Suffering and street life is what I wouldn't like to experience again. He is a caring and lovable husband, but he wants to be the head. My voice doesn't count. “I have a voice, I am a brave lady.” I said to myself and stood up grandly to the dinning room to meet him.

Would you like to see yours, little warrior?” Selene’s voice was soft but there was an edge just at the very tip of it. She was trying to lure me into her trap. My hand reached toward it without my permission. I was being drawn to it, craving it, and needing to know my desires in life. “Will it hurt?” I asked, but my voice sounded far away – disconnected from me.

His faceless void stared into my soul as he waited for my next move. “My name is Lucius Aldrich, I can offer you your greatest desire. All I want from you is to retrieve a vital asset of mine lost to you.” “And what exactly is my greatest desire human?” He sounded amused. “To feed on the untouchable souls.” He went quiet after my response. Of course I was right. Death’s greatest desire will always be the death itself. “And whose soul is it you badly want back alive, that gives you the audacity to trick me up here and strike a bargain with me?” He moved back as he began to circle me in assessment.
