It is like the one in his home office. “Ok, Jerome will be here soon. He is my second in command in the company. So if I’m not available then ask him, he will help you,” he says and I just nod my head as I look at the bookshelf in front of me and I stand and move towards it and find books on the oceans. I scoff. Humans have no idea what is in the waters and I know if they knew the true depths and the creatures there, they would never dip a toe in the waters again. I chuckle to myself at that thought. “What’s so funny?” Carter asks with a smile on his lips, and I shake my head, fighting the smile that is on my lips.

Just a touch from her almost sent a groan hissing out of my mouth. My heart pounded hard like it was about to break free as she ripped her mouth away, blinked, and strutted towards the bookshelf seductively. My eyes were on the soft curves of her ass. Damn, they looked so perfect in that Jean. She removed a book from the shelf, idly flipping through the pages. “Do you know that doctors believe it is possible to have sex in space?” My lips curled in amusement. “Tell me more,” She smiled, still not lifting her gaze from the book. “But I think it is ridiculous. Humans are weird. Why do we always feel the need to look deeper into time, space, and gravity,”

In the library, Tristan and Maya were reading together as they always did during the afternoon break. They had developed a routine over the past weeks. Maya would pick a book about sea creatures her current obsession was jellyfish, which she found "both terrifying and beautiful." Tristan would pick a book about astronomy he was working his way through a volume on black holes, their gravity so strong not even light could escape. They didn't talk much. That was what Tristan liked about Maya. She understood that silence wasn't empty. Sometimes it was full of things that didn't need to be said. "Do you think there are creatures in space?" Maya asked, looking up from her jellyfish book.

Along with Paul,Elizabeth approached the container. One saffron-colored container and two blue-colored containers were found on the starboard side. It is fully sealed. It is waterproofed. Clara and Smith confirmed a yellow container on the port side. It seems to be ten feet in size. "Sir total of four containers were found at the sea bed—three from the starboard side and one from the port side. Three are twenty feet, and one is ten feet. The smaller container has so many Fiber wires outside. Some satellite communication equipment is fixed on a small yellow container. All are waterproofed like coverings. Heavy locks are on the door."Wheel house received Paul messages through radio.

"Set a course for the Mariana Trench. If the Admiral wants a war, let's give him one at the bottom of the world." The "Sparrow" dived deeper, leaving the dying light of the surface behind, heading toward the final confrontation where human betrayal and cosmic hunger would finally meet.

Zane and I tucked the girls in not longer after that, and I read from what was now officially the girls’ second-favorite book. With a smile, I opened the book, admiring the illustrations Grace and Chloe had already seen and cooed over. “Far out in the ocean, where the water is as blue as the prettiest cornflower and as clear as crystal, it is very, very deep; so deep, indeed, that no cable could sound it, and many church steeples, piled one upon another, would not reach from the ground beneath to the surface of the water above. There dwell the Sea King and his subjects.

But she hoped that even Scar wouldn't sink so low as to ruin their wedding day. After everything ws organized and put away, Lacey headed out to the living room and poured herself a glass of wine. Then she eyed the wall of books on the far wall. John Grisham... Tom Clancy.... Then there were classics such as The Three Musketeers, The Man in the Iron Mask, both by Alexandre Dumas; as well as Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and From the Earth to the Moon, both by Jules Verne; and much more. It was an impressive collection. She chose From the Earth to the Moon and then sat on the couch to wait for Julien.

So I ask for the nurse to give me the photo of Isabella that is lying on the little bedside stand; I hold it firm by the edges and put it close to my heart. And then… I drift off again… ***THE END*** Sequel: The Marine Next Door II

Each book seemed to hold the answers to countless mysteries, waiting to be discovered by those who sought enlightenment. They swam through narrow aisles, their tails propelling them effortlessly, as they searched for a specific section of the library. The books varied in size and color, reflecting the vast array of subjects and disciplines encompassed by the merfolk's pursuit of knowledge. From ancient histories to intricate spellcasting, from the poetry of the deep sea to the intricacies of political systems, the library held the collective wisdom of Aqualeara.

It was only five short, trembling, pain-fuelled steps, but it felt like I had run a marathon and I was light-headed. I clung to the frame of the bed, steadying myself and catching my breath for a moment before pulling myself upright and reaching for the shelf for stability. My eyes scanned the spines. A bible, obviously, made sense and I had predicted as much. The English Pilot, Fourth Book, Treatise of the Sphere and of the Art of Navigation, A Mariner’s Guide to the Coasts of the Spanish Main, De Iure Praedae, and something that looked totally out of place, Clarissa’s Folly: Or, The Wager of Hearts. There were also a number of books that were blank on the spines, which was interesting.
