Mia's pov
I couldn't sleep, so I let myself go back there, the way I did sometimes when the not knowing got loud enough that lying still felt impossible. I didn't go looking for anything new. I just let the pieces come the way they always came, out of order, incomplete, refusing to line up into anything I could actually hold.
Music, too loud, bass through the floorboards more than melody. Danny's basement smelling like spilled beer and somebody's cologne, too much of it, applied like a dare.
