"And hopelessness caused the rest." That shut everyone up. Even the grieving being. The silver ocean shimmered faintly beneath the observatory floor. Its waters calmer than before. Healing. Recovering. But now another fear spread across the surface. Not grief. Anticipation. Luke noticed something then. Something small. The future projections around the room had stopped disappearing. He pointed immediately. "Wait." Everyone looked. The projection windows glowed softly. Thousands of futures remained visible. Not many. Far fewer than before.

"You want me to get it?" I smiled. "No. Stay. Just a moment longer." I pulled the fur higher around us and nestled into his chest, letting the warmth of his arms and the memory of that dream blur the edges of reality. Let them knock. Let the world wait. Because in the space between one breath and the next, I had seen our future. Silver fur. Stormlight eyes. A howl that would shake the stars. And I would follow that sound into eternity. With him. Always with him.

After a long time, I opened my sore, stinging eyes. Darkness filled my vision. My tears wouldn’t stop falling. “Nina! Nina, you’re awake?” Anthony rushed to my side and gently wiped away my tears. “Nina, I’m sorry… the doctor said… your eyes… you might not be able to see anymore.” He lowered his head, a bit guilty, then remembering I couldn’t see his expression at all, he softly took my hand. “Nina, don’t be afraid. I won’t abandon you. I’ll be your eyes from now on. Our wedding will just be postponed.”

"We'd never hurt Luna. Never." "You don't see it as hurting her. You see it as protecting her. Controlling her. Making sure she never becomes a threat." Future me's voice breaks. "And when she rebels, when she tries to escape, you kill her. All five of you. Together. Without hesitation." Silence. Crushing. Impossible. Luna looks at me. "Is that true? Would you really kill me?" "Never," all five of us say at once. "That's what I said too." Future me laughs. Hollow. "But I was wrong. You were wrong. We were all wrong."

I watched it all unfold, clearly catching the smugness in Gianna's eyes. I spent nights staying up, running from one stronghold to another, just to finally secure the trade route. Yet, with just a casual word, he handed my hard-earned efforts over to his childhood sweetheart. "Do whatever you want." I closed my eyes and turned away, my back facing him. A brief silence fell over the hospital room. Then, two sets of footsteps slowly faded away. With my eyes closed, that eerie video replayed in my mind once more. My future self, her face streaked with tears, was wearing a prison uniform.

That terrified me and even as I left the building after leaving my kids with Iris who said she would be staying there for a few days, I felt my heart racing as eight words kept flashing through my mind “The future is here and it’s not changing.” Those words reminded me of my goal. The need to change the future and now that Mia Lu was down, I wouldn’t know how soon the war I saw in my visions would break out. It could be tomorrow or the next week– Raien could die soon. Oh goddess, no! “What are we doing, Relia? We have to have a solid plan. We can’t keep going with the flow.” Inara was also panicking within me.

Objects around the room begin to rattle and shake, responding to her distress. I place a calming hand on Luna's shoulder, channeling a bit of my own power to help her regain control. "Elara," I say, keeping my voice steady, "I think you owe us all an explanation." My sister nods, her expression grave. "You're right. But first, you need to understand – I've seen the true future. All possible futures, in fact. And the threat we face... it's greater than anything we could have imagined." She waves her hand, and suddenly the room around us dissolves. We find ourselves standing in a barren wasteland, the sky above us a sickly, swirling vortex of darkness.

Suddenly, as I shift my eyes back to Raya again, I was surprised as she started to fade away as if she's being dusted, I worriedly asked, "Raya, what's happening? You're disappearing." "I don't have much time." Raya said as she reached out for my hand, she continued, "Do you dare find out the future?" I gulped hard and grabbed onto her hands. Just like that I saw the future. I saw it vividly and clearly. The future... where everyone is dead. I hold my breathe as I saw the horrors of the vision Raya gave me.
