*** As I wrote the words on my skin, my blood didn't come out red. It came out **Gold**. And as the first drop hit the dirt, the ruined earth began to grow **Steel**.

She bypassed the candy shop without slowing down. I stayed where I was for a long time. The wind picked up, sending a swirl of dead leaves across the gravel. One of them caught on the edge of my opened pouch. I looked at the gold inside, then at the smudge in the dirt where the boy had been standing. I didn't close the bag. I just held it, my arm suspended in the empty space, my fingers still curled as if they were waiting for someone to take what I was offering.

Gold is beautiful. It shines like the sun, it never tarnishes, and the whole world chases it. But standing here, buried under layers of silk, lace, and diamonds, I realized one cruel truth. Gold makes the strongest chains. And right now, I was walking willingly into mine.

Honestly, it’s hard to tell the difference.” The others burst into laughter, their cruel voices echoing through the room. “Gold’s right. She’s nothing but a dog. A worthless thing to kick around,” one of the girls chimed in.

I squatted, picked it up, and quickly checked if the item was genuine. "These golds are freakin' real!" I exclaimed in glee. "Of course, it is, you idiot." Matis Monet grinned before bursting into an evil laugh. I was too stunned at the heat of the moment; my eyes were glued to the gold. I could taste the victory on the back of my tongue; could smell the frill of a good life. I knew there was more to life than being a loser. After tonight, I would splurge into the goodness of the world and be whatever I wanted to be.

Holding myself back from licking my lips, instead I muster a small smile of innocence with enough flirtatious energy while holding his gaze on me. “2000 gold bars.” Fatso calls out again Crap!
