I swallowed the knot in my throat and looked at Stephen, who already looked ready to snatch the phone from me to resolve the problem.
“How can I help you?” I asked, trying to remain calm even though my stomach was doing multiple backflips.
“We need three million to bail your brother out,” she said, like I was some kind of magic wand that could produce money on command.
“I do not have any money,” I grumbled. “If Matthew made a mistake, he should pay for it.”
“No money? Then I guess I would just have to visit Mrs Moore then.”
