Taran and I are still at the library. I just finished my homework and am now doing an image search with Taran’s description of the Dragon Stone. He’s sitting next to me with another book we got. I’ve noticed that he seems more comfortable since he’s read a couple of books on history. Occasionally he asks questions but not often. Without success using an image search, I ask Taran, “Would a vampire clan or wolf pack keep the stone or would the thief?” “What do you mean?”

The kind of book that required patience and silence and the willingness to sit inside discomfort for extended periods. The kind of book a man reads alone. I put it back gently. Moved on. Near the window I found something interesting. A section on Stone City itself. Not many books. Six. Maybe seven. But they were there. Local histories. Urban development records. One thin volume that looked self published about the city's criminal architecture in the early years before it became what it was now. I pulled that one out. Read the back cover slowly. Names. Dates. Territories. The original families who had carved Stone City into pieces before the modern structure took over.
