I ask, a breathless laugh escaping my lips as I move to the next piece. “It was the moment my life officially got complicated,” Eli replies from behind me, his hands in his pockets as he watches me walk. The next display features an old, framed high school detention slip, mounted right next to a charcoal sketch of the detention hall where we spent hours bickering endlessly, yet stealing glances at each other while pretending we didn’t care. But I noticed something I hadn’t seen before. “Hey honey, come take a look at this,” I called. Carrie came over to where I was standing and grabbed me around the waist, hugging me from behind. She saw right away what I was looking at. On the wall in front of us was some sort of collection of art and other posters created by amateurs or locals— perhaps part of that tour club. There were posters that outlined camping trips with Polaroids of nakedness and sex acts. There were pages that were just some person’s “home page” with articles and photos of themselves.

I whine. "Just one more.......Ok." She gets up and sits on the edge of the bed with her pad. "Ready?" I roll to my side and prop my head on my hand. "Show me." She shows me. "It's not finished, but I'd love to put this on canvas." I grin. "Sold!" I chuckle. "Stop!" She hits me with the pad. "Hey!" I laugh. "Careful with my artwork!" I snatch the pad from her.

Hallee isn’t alone in thinking that since I get emails from customers asking for more of Pascal, the cute squirrel, every week. “Are you still doing the sticker pack?” Hallee asks as I color the squirrel in before I turn my attention to the forest background. I nod. “You want one?” “Yeah. I’m trying out bullet journaling and I’m tired of all the blank pages.”

Alice wasn’t sure if she could easily adjust to not having a child running around, but she has no choice. She continued staring at the drawing and couldn’t help but notice the small details in it. All the four leaves have a small smiley face each and an actual note at the bottom right of the huge "GOOD LUCK" just below the actual drawing. The note says, "Be safe always" and "Thank you, sister." Alice could tell that the kid has a good future in art-related industries, maybe fashion as well.

It’d be nice if things were always like this. But I don’t have much control over that. I only see Maddie nod to the letter. “Pray to tell what’s this week's piece?” Ah, yes. I realize with a smile. I turn the page over to show her. I make to translate the contents as though Nicoli’s writing has improved. Is his artwork…more abstract in style? “Brother has drawn (mostly) a bear dancing. He (this brown figure here) and I (the purple figure here) are cooking popcorn.” I lift the page to point to it.

“Just Eric in fancy lettering. And maybe a music staff and music notes on either end to bracket it, and tiny, multicolored butterflies above it to make it look feminine.” Butch nodded, obviously picturing what she wanted in his mind. “I’ll draw up a stencil real quick. See if I can capture what you want. Then we can make adjustments before we make it permanent.” Rebekah’s tummy fluttered as if she’d swallowed a few of those feminine little butterflies. “Okay,” she croaked.

“I don’t know who wants to meet me here.” Alexander stepped closer, concern softening his features. “Do you think someone’s playing a prank?” She shrugged, uneasy. “I don’t know. But the note said ‘Trust only the art.’” He glanced at her sketches, propped against the parapet. The architectural arches and lantern lit doorways seemed to beckon. “Claude Monet said, ‘Art is the only way to run away without leaving home.’ Maybe the sender means you should follow your instincts?”
