“ Are you stressed?” Someone asked from the photo launching but I can only give them a shrug and a small smile to hide what I am really feeling. Work seems to be more heavy, then I realized that I was accepting every offer to clear my mind about the feud that I had with Levi. Yes, no more major Sullivan because his thinking frustrates the hell out of me.

It was in the middle of a staff email chain titled “Friday Madness.” She hadn’t expected him to see it.

The comments are worse. “She’s a train wreck.” “She’s high again lmao.” “Imagine having that much money and still being pathetic.” “Her career’s a ticking time bomb.” “She’s fried her brain.” I keep scrolling because I’m an expert in self-destruction and this is my specialty picking the wound until it bleeds. Someone made a meme of my face, eyes wide, lips parted mid-sentence. They captioned it: “When even your dealer is concerned.”

“Need help? Or do you need someone to dramatically throw it out of the window for you?” I couldn’t help the small puff of laughter that escaped. “You’re not funny.” “I’m hilarious. You’re just too stressed to appreciate fine comedy,” he replied with a mock sigh. “So what’s got your brain twisted in knots? Is it the treaties? The histories? Please don’t say the battle strategies. Those gave me nightmares.” I looked at him, and smiled,he was trying to make me laugh, he must have noticed that I was stressed. There was humor in his voice, but his eyes were watching me carefully—soft, concerned, like he saw through the armor I thought I was still wearing.

He adjusted, settled and waited. I clenched my jaw and forced myself to stay normal. The masseuse started on my shoulders “Your shoulders are tense”. I wanted to scream “Because the man beside me is impossible” but I didn't. Instead I said “Just stress”. Jace made a low sound. “Stress you created yourself”. “Excuse you?” “You over think everything,” he said. “Even this”. “What does that mean?” “It means relax and it is not a trap.” I narrowed my eyes on him “I'm not overthinking it.”

Heaven She thought, before closing her eyes blocking away his memories while she still could. He returned stressed. The deals haven't been going fine. The businesses he had took under to hide the nasty dealings of mafia were troubling his accounts. He needed more investments to fill the gap. The amount of losers in his family weren't less either. A lot of people had met their demise for stepping in between his way. As much as his work was exhausting, he found killing relaxing. It would be the most peaceful thing he did every day.

I stress baked whenever an ominous thing was about to happen. And this shit was ominous enough.

He looks up from his tablet with a concerned look in his eyes. “I am missing home and my work and friends there. And then Lazarus had to go back to work and I am left all alone. I feel lonely and insecure. That must be what heightens my stress right?” I try to give him a smile of reassurance but it mostly comes out like a grimace.
