My Best Friend's Father
He stands and heads for the door.
"I'll see you later, sweetie. I love you." I turn my face to the wall, ignoring him. I hear him sigh before the door closes. I listen for the lock, but it doesn't click. I tug at the rope as his footsteps fade. It's tight, but maybe I can loosen it. I try pulling, but it won't budge. Maybe I can use my teeth. I lift my head, but my hands are tied too high. Damn! I sigh, frustrated, and shift my hands when I feel the rope catch on something. I look at the metal leaves the rope is snagged on. One has a pointed end. Maybe if I... I rub the rope against it, back and forth, trying to fray it. After five minutes, it starts unraveling.
