Stubborn Hearts
I pulled off my cap and leaned against the wall, completely drained.
"Queenie," Jeremiah said softly.
"Don't call me that," I said. "That was the last surgery."
"Are you really leaving?"
I met his gaze. "How did we end up like this, Jeremiah?"
He said nothing for a long while, but eventually, he spoke. "Because we're both stubborn mules. You wouldn't listen, and I never knew how to explain."
I smiled wryly. "What's the point of saying all that now?"
"Stay, Queenie," Jeremiah blurted. "Give me a chance to explain."
