It was over. A new SMS appeared on his screen—Mike again. “I’m sorry, bro. Really. I didn’t mean to let it get this far. Please forgive me.” Dominic didn’t reply. He blocked Mike’s number. Maybe one day he’d talk to him. Maybe. But not tonight. His phone rang. He stared at the screen for a beat: Duke Anderson. He accepted the call. “Son,” Duke said gently. Dominic sat straighter. “Sir. I did not expose the contract. It was just careless of me to forget it at my friend’s place, and my ex visited. He was mad at me about something and let it slip, but she manipulated him somehow and got hold of it.”

Samuel did not leave Drake’s bedside. He looked to be on death’s door. Like he got shot and not Aurora. This made Dominik sick with worry. When the storm hit, and she still hadn’t been found, he was afraid he had seen her for the last time. On the afternoon after the storm stopped, Dominik was in his office, drunk off of whiskey. He didn’t even hear her walk in. He swung around fast when he heard her voice. “Is this what I am to expect every time you have a scare that I am dead?”

, she asked to confirm. “You’re here for me remember?”, Dominic asked back. “Oh shut up”, Maria said. Dominic laughed. “We will see who would be talking when my dick is deep in your throat”, he responded and pulled her into security room. Some of his colleagues winked at him and he smirked back. “Try to make this quick as possible”, she said to him as they walked into the room. “Sweetie, you know that depends on you”, he replied. She went on her knees.

Dominic’s office was silent. Serena stood near the edge of the room, her hands clenched at her sides, eyes sharp. The tension between them crackled like live wires. “I know you did something,” Dominic said, his voice low and dangerous. “I don’t know what, but a part of my business… It failed today. And someone inside my operation had to be involved.” His icy gaze fixed on her, and the air seemed to shrink around her, he wasn't going to admit his illegal business in front of her. Who knew what plan she had now.

His breathing was steady now, finally, but shallow, like his body hadn’t quite forgiven the world yet. Lila sat beside him, one hand resting lightly on his chest, feeling every rise and fall as if counting them could keep him alive. Across the room, Dominic stood at a makeshift workstation: a folding table, a single secure terminal powered through a hardline he’d jury-rigged himself, and a mess of handwritten notes. No cloud access. No wireless anything. He wasn’t chasing them anymore. He was hunting backward. “You should sleep,” Dominic said quietly, without turning around. “I will,” Lila lied.

Dominic hustled through the damp service tunnel, wearing a grease-stained maintenance uniform and following the old map Alexei had shoved into his hands. The low rumble of gunfire vibrated through the ceiling. Upstairs, Hugo was turning the fourth-floor corridor into a warzone. Dominic hauled himself up the access ladder, slipping past the security sensors. Adam Leo was already looping the camera feeds to show nothing but static, keeping Rachel Moss’s defense line completely blind. Dominic pushed open the fire door, stepped into the hallway, and found Room 404. He slipped inside. The soundproof door clicked shut, muffling the gunfire to a dull thud.

She twisted in between the sheets, but still sleeping. Dominik got dressed and washed his face, he took the keys and left the room. He very well could have ordered room service, but he did not like hotel coffee, he was heading for two vanilla caramel frappuccinos from the Starbucks right around the corner, to commemorate the day they officially met.
