And the city lights flickered far below them, unaware that a storm had just begun.
The next morning, sunlight peeked through the dusty curtains of Room 3. Natalie stretched as she sat up on the bed, the black spellbook lying safely beside her, hidden under her pillow. Miguel was already awake, checking through the bag they packed last night. Cielo yawned as she fixed her messy hair.
Natalie stood up and tied her hair into a quick ponytail. She turned toward the door and said, "Time to get more money."
She stepped out of the room and walked down the creaky stairs to the motel front desk. The manager was still there, his face pale, eyes dull, still under her control.
