She peeled it while he washed the fruits. They both cut them together before blending them in two batches, which included the one she had cut before he came. They poured the drink in two long glasses and added ice and straw. They both took a drag from it at the same time and Olive moaned while Wayne just nodded. It tasted good.

What she didn’t know— was that this small act— would make him far more dangerous tonight. Soon, they arrived at the fruit-gathering area. Clar’s curiosity flared. She wanted to pick everything—but the original owner rarely left the cave. Her memory held almost nothing about these fruits. The orange was juicy and just the right level of sweetness. "This is the best orange I've ever eaten," she said. She held out a slice to Ali Ahmed and he took it, their fingers brushing slightly. Kyra felt a shiver run up her arm and turned away. How was it that after all these years, Ali Ahmed could still make her feel this way?
