My feet crunched against the gravel as I stepped into the storm, cold, sharp droplets soaking through all remaining dry parts of me. Two steps in, my shoulders tightened under the biting wind. I stopped abruptly. Reason flickered back like a cruel afterthought, reminding me how foolishly prideful I must’ve looked, standing small and defiant against the Alpha offering help. For Sarah, for everything I had sacrificed, I couldn’t let pride endanger my position. Gathering what little resolve remained, I turned back silently. My drenched figure must have made an utterly pathetic sight as I leaned down and picked up the umbrella again, the cold handle slipping through trembling fingers.

I turned my face away from her slowly, pulled a few napkins from the counter, and dabbed at my cheek as tears threatened to fall—not from weakness, but from the strain of holding it all in. The stinging feeling of having to lower your dignity, to render yourself helpless, even when every part of you screamed to fight back—it was unbearable. But I had to do it. I had to swallow my pride and do what was right. I turned away and walked without looking back.

" Anger issues, I see," I said while grinning and I quickly slid down and got away from his grip backing away. I do not like how he treats me at all, he is an arrogant spoiled brat who wasn’t taught a thing about respect.

“You had the vows, or at least the charade of them. You had the right name. You had the safety of a title. You had the chance to be better and you threw it away.” The word “better” hung between us like a question mark aimed at his throat. He swallowed. The attempt at a retort turned into a low, animal sound. Pride is a stubborn thing, but it doesn’t always save you. “You’ve had your fun, brother,” I repeated, slower, letting each word land and settle into the hollow places he’d tried to fill with arrogance. “Now… it’s my turn now.”

It was crumbling beneath the weight of starvation. I didn’t want to beg. I didn’t want to give him the satisfaction. But I was drowning, and this was the only lifeline I could reach. I lowered my head, closing my eyes as I let out a shaky breath. My pride was slowly slipping away with every passing second. “I’ll accept you,” I whispered, the words barely audible, as though they might be ripped from me before they even fully left my lips. The words tasted bitter on my tongue, burning with the humiliation of it all. “But only if you feed me.”

My heart ached, my stomach churned, but I swallowed it all down. I was done. Done being his puppet. Done being his daughter.
