All the warriors had their claws out while their eyes glowed and their bones crackled with expectation, but I knew better than to let the situation escalate. "We do not forgive trespassers very easily!" I warned and the idiot passed me a smug smile.

Seraphine felt a pulse of recognition, cold and sharp. “Not yet,” Riven murmured, standing slightly in front of her. The figure stepped forward fully, revealing itself as a Tribunal scout—an observer sent to test, to measure, to intimidate. Its eyes glimmered with pale light, and the faint edge of a blade reflected the morning sun streaming through broken walls. Seraphine’s stomach twisted. This was only the beginning. She looked at Riven, whose jaw was set, eyes locked on the scout. His stance was protective, but she could see the question in his gaze: Can you control it? Can you hold yourself together if I can’t shield you?

“Alpha, this is base over. I read you loud and clear. What is the situation over there?” Kimberly cleared her throat and spoke. “I sight six huts down here. Some kids are playing around, but not signs of any hostiles.” “Alright. Stay put and keep me updated.” Oscar muted the radio and said. “I would not have been so enthusiastic about this mission if I knew we would go through all those hassles just to get here and sit our asses down.” Kimberly looked at the horizontal scar that ran across the man’s left cheek which was a constant reminder of one of the missions they had embarked upon.

"Luca Cooper, right?" "I know him. He's one of James' top guards. Luca hates the guy mind you, only does the job because it pays well and he needs to look after his pups," Blake said and I turned my head so that I was looking at him, giving him 'how the fuck do you know him' kind of look. "Jayson has had meetings with James more than once in an attempt to reach a peace agreement between our packs. Luca has always been the one to escort us to the pack house and then back to the border again. We've had some interesting conversations."

Alpha Arthur then explained the scout's job, which was to take pictures of them when they were at the Hola Bella Bar. Then eavesdrop on their conversation. "Make sure your cover isn't blown!" Alpha Arthur advised the scout. The scout nodded and went about his business. A few hours later, the scout arrived at the Hola Bella Bar. He wandered around looking for Elena, Sofia, and Hailey. He sat in front of the bartender's table and ordered a drink, not stopping to look around.

I stepped right up to the first scout, shoving the sharp blade against his throat. "You're nothing but Rylan's leftover garbage," the scout sneered up at me. He tilted his head back and spat a thick glob of bloody spit right onto the toe of my boot. "Go ahead, sweetheart. Kill us. The boss is already on his fucking way with an extraction team, and he's going to string you up by your pretty fucking neck—" Before the bastard could finish talking, a terrifying, wet sound rattled through the whole room. a deep, savage roar that shook the concrete floorboards—a sound that was completely, undeniably non-human.
