Brem straightens as the scout who delivered the full briefing steps into the room, young, road-worn, the journey from the eastern border visible in the dust still on the boots and the tight set of the shoulders that comes from carrying information at speed. The scout meets Lucian's eyes. "He walks again, My Alpha," the scout says.

My father gave it to me the night I inherited the title, pressing it into my palm with a look that said more than any oath. I tuck it into the sheath at my hip, let the weight remind me of what I am. “Standard formation,” I say. “Tessa, you take the right. Luka left. Scouts in diamond. I’ll be at point. We move silent until we have visual, then you follow my lead.” Tessa and Luka exchange a glance—less about trust, more about who gets first crack. The scouts, both named something with too many consonants, simply nod and slip into the snow like ghosts. They’ve done this before.

“I support whatever you want, Angelo. It’s going to take work either way you decide to go.” Angelo smiled. “I know. I want to put in the work. I am thinking a scout would be up my alley. Scout units had become the single most dominant strategic advancement of our era, vital for territorial warfare, border defense, and tracking migratory game across the wilderness. Winters ago, my master professor had only agreed to sign my recommendation to the elite research sector because I had single-handedly designed and calibrated the internal core for the integrated Wraithfang Recon Unit, model U.N. It unified long-range endurance, heavy runic payloads, lightning speed, and automated celestial navigation—a breakthrough that had already altered the tide of real

It was a thin, soot-covered scout wearing a torn Crimson tunic. Before the scout could draw breath, Julian grabbed him by the throat, hoisting his whole body off the floor and slamming him hard against the stone fireplace. "Speak," Julian growled, his golden Alpha eyes flashing with lethal intent. "Give me one reason not to tear your tongue out right now." The scout choked, his legs dangling above the hearth. "Alpha... wait! It is... it is a message from the front! The Council forces... they are advancing through the lower pass!"
