The door swung open, but it was the girl from earlier who answered.
"Yes?" she asked, and I pursed my lips.
"Let her in, Loren," Hayden said irritably, and I wondered if his annoyance was directed at me.
"It's fine. Maya said to come get you," I said from outside before turning and making my way back downstairs.
I joined the others, and we began looking at Maya's old album. She told us stories of her childhood, and I was captivated by her tales.
"My mother was difficult. Her husband sold my sister to a family for drugs. He told them that they were homeless and he just wanted a good home for her," she shared, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for her.
