I picked my phone back up. I texted Jaxon. No preamble, just the screenshot. His response came in under a minute. 'I see it.' Three seconds passed. 'Don't read the replies.' I put my phone in my bag. I looked at the book again. I didn't read the replies. I also didn't read the book.

"I need to." She tapped it. The chat opened. There weren’t many messages. Just a few. The last one was simple. ~ If you think I am a man who lets go of what belongs to him simply because of a text message, you're mistaken. ~ Her breath caught. There was something about the calmness of it that was worse than anger. No long paragraphs. Just certainty. Her hands trembled harder. Without realizing it, she lowered the phone slowly until it slipped from her grip and landed on the table with a soft but heavy thud.

My finger shake as I open the text. It reads: "Where are you? We need to talk!"

The book screamed. ⸻ Reality screamed. ⸻ The sky cracked. ⸻ And the name vanished. ⸻ Gone. ⸻ Destroyed. ⸻ Forever. ⸻ 💔 ⸻ 🌙 The Last Message The burning page released one final sentence. ⸻ A sentence directed only at Ilyaan. ❤️ ⸻ The letters glowed brightly. ⸻ Then slowly faded. ⸻ “The answer was never a word.”

My eyes widened. 'If you need any aesthetics for your book. Lmao.'

I ask deciding to make a stop the the study, it is more likely for the book to be there than here in the Library. The door is open so I let myself in, texting Niko. Me: I’m looking for a book. I sit on the sofa closest to the door waiting for him. He replies less than a minute later. My Man: Which one? I smirked. Me: Family rules…? I think that's what Tommy called it. My phone rings as soon as the message shows the double tick. “Hi, Niko.” “Hi baby.”
