My heart stopped. A guard stationed at the door shifted, his heavy boots scuffing the floor. He frowned, his head tilting as he scanned the shadows near Jessica’s feet. My hand flew to my mouth, holding back a gasp of pure terror. If he looked up, I was a dead man. If he found the shard, Jessica was done for. Jessica didn't skip a beat. She shifted her foot, the heavy hem of her ritual gown sweeping over the spot where the shard lay, hiding it from view. Her eyes stayed locked on the mirror in front of her, but I saw the slight tremor in her hands.

Lila’s POV I stumbled out of the cab and the cold air hit my face hard enough to make the world tilt. My phone kept buzzing in my bag but I ignored it and leaned against a brick wall to catch my breath. Snow fell soft and quiet around me and the streetlights blurred into halos. Cassandra didn't stop punching Jessa until she was lying on the floor. She then moves on top of Jessa, sits on her, and repeatedly hits her with a powerful punch. They're both soaking in blood while they fought intensely.
