Nothing came out. Because what could I say? I waited two years for a man who stopped existing. I let Adrien destroy me more thoroughly than any enemy ever could. Miguel sat on the edge of the bed. Put his hand on mine. "I know it hurts," he said quietly. "I know you're breaking. But you're still here. You're still fighting. Don't stop now." But I wasn't fighting. I was just existing. Barely. Until everything blurred together into nothing.

She thought to herself as she summoned up strength and dragged herself to the bars, every movement feeling like she was sliding on broken glass. Dragging herself up to her feet, she began to hit her head on the bars. “I don’t want to live anymore”. She thought as she took the first hit. The pain doubling the headache she already felt but she continued.

There was nothing about Damon Bane worth losing sleep over, I told myself with complete conviction at approximately midnight, lying wide awake in the dark, thinking about him. He was the enemy. The man who held my life in his hands and had made very clear exactly how much empty weight that life carried. On the battlefield, I was better used as bait. In a room, I was seen as a problem. In a hallway in the dark, I was something to be taunted, laughed at, and ignored. Running, already? His voice in the dark was grave. Slightly amused. I pressed the heels of my hands against my eyes and sighed.

“How can my mate… my mate… be my enemy? No, no, this can’t be happening. The Moon God wouldn’t do this to me!” Tears welled in her eyes, blurring her vision. She turned and ran to her room, collapsing onto her bed, burying her face in the soft covers as sobs wracked her body. “I searched for my mate… my whole life, I searched,” she choked out between cries. “And now he’s here, standing before me… but I can’t accept him. I can’t, because he’s my enemy. He came here to kill, not to claim me.”
