The Basketball Diaries の小説・ストーリー

Day 13 "Hey! Pass the ball to me!" Dylan yelled as he raised his hands above, trying to get the ball from MJ. They all finished riding the bike 30 minutes ago and now MJ and Dylan decided to join a group of people playing basketball. MJ raises his hands and passes Dylan the ball, to which the older guy responds with a run to their hoop. He jumps and dunks the ball, which his team celebrates with a cheer as they approach Dylan and lift him.

He grabbed all the diaries and threw them at my feet. Suddenly, all the diaries started flying around me. They were circling around me. My eyes went wide as the diaries started burning. In no time, all the diaries were turned into ashes. There was a spark of blue light literally standing in front of me. I gasped loudly as that spark threw itself on me. I was expecting unbearable pain. But inside, my body absorbed that spark.

UNKNOWN DIARYYY, Just her mere presence in my vicinity, and I can already feel myself becoming strongerrr. I saw her naked body today, Diary… she was taking a shower, wanted to get rid of all the dirt she had on her from packing or so she said. I could see her through the walls, Diary —lots of demons like me do this to unsuspecting girls all over the world who manage to catch our attention, you know? — And you have no idea how I wished she could sense my presence, but I’m not that strong yet!

He stops bugging me for a few seconds when I feel a piece of paper appear in my hands. We're not supposed to use magic during our human courses. Is he crazy?? I smoothen open the crumpled piece of paper curious to see what's it in. "You're beautiful and you're distracting me Layla.." I smile at the note and hide it carefully so the teacher doesn't see me being distracted. The door opens up and the principal walks in with a boy I've never seen before.

“I can’t stand you and the way you put things, but damn, I didn’t know Andre had it in him.” “They all do, those damn boys that play basketball all fucking do. Him, Dylan, there’s this guy, I don’t know if you’ve seen him but he’s a senior as well, his name is Jason.” Oh. “And then Michael obviously except he isn’t doing shit he’s good at to you.” “Don’t bring him up and this Jason, you know him well?”

“They say time makes it easier. It hasn’t. It still feels like yesterday.” I leaned closer, guiding his head to my shoulder. “Then let it feel that way. There’s no clock for grief.” We sat like that for a long time. Wind brushed over us, carrying faint scents of earth and pine, silence settling heavier than words. When he spoke again, it was barely above a whisper. “They didn’t want me to play basketball. Dad wanted me with Zayne in the family business. But I knew basketball was it. Zayne helped me convince them. They finally came around.” His throat worked as he swallowed. “And then they died. Right when everything was starting. It fucking hurts, Mira.”

I turned myself around and buried my head into James’s chest as I pleaded in a whisper. “Don’t you love basketball the most?” He pretended not to hear my pleas. Before I transmigrated into the book, I was stuck in a hospital bed daily. My only hobby was watching basketball games. I thought I could finally experience the joy of playing on the court after transmigrating into the book, only to end up with this cursed milk production physique. It would be absurd to watch a player make three-pointers while spraying milk on the court! Of the three male leads, James was a skilled basketball player. As such, I often watched him play the games.

But her next words shattered that illusion. "I asked the doctor. This illness is a bottomless pit. You'll need dialysis for the rest of your life. Staying alive will only bring you suffering. Maybe… it's better not to drag it out. "Zac is still a minor. When he grows up, he'll need money for college and marriage—everything costs money. Your brother and I can't help you. You'll have to figure something out yourself." Kathy stepped closer, the corner of her mouth lifting in schadenfreude.
