Tasting My Hockey Roommate Novels & Stories

“Because I have absolutely no interest in watching you skate around an ice rink for two hours.” He reaches for a piece of toast, completely unfazed by my refusal. “You’re my girlfriend.” “That doesn’t mean I have to become a hockey fan.” “You don’t have to become a hockey fan. You just have to come with me.” I turn toward him, narrowing my eyes. “Why?” “Because you know absolutely nothing about hockey.” I lean back against the couch, trying to look more confident than I feel. “I know you’re a hockey player.” “Come on, even a random kid would know this.” He watches me struggle for an answer, clearly enjoying himself.

I said. "I do, sometimes, with some of the guys. But my father got me a place off campus too. That's where we're going." "Is that where you do all your chef magic?" "Pretty much." "I can't wait to watch you cook, then. Elodie still can't believe you're the one making those dishes, she says you hired a chef." "Your roommate Elodie seems to hate me for some reason." "She doesn't hate you. She just thinks hockey and cooking don't go together, I guess."

Jace beams, “I'm going to go get us a bowl of popcorn, I'll be right back.” “Wait, did you just trick me to watch another highlight by making a baby face?” He's already at the door. “Well, I'm going to plead the fifth to that.” Of course he did. No one pleads the fifth when they're innocent. The moment his footsteps fade down the stairs. I'm surprised by my surroundings. The room is unmistakably that of a hockey player. Hockey posters and team banners cover the walls, including a large Everfrost Frosthawks hockey banner above the window and another team emblem displayed beside the door.

"I was just intensely bored, looking for a distraction, and regretting my life choices within thirty seconds of walking in. What about you? Are you a sports fan, or just lost?" Stacey offered a bitter, self-deprecating little chuckle. "Neither, really. I watch hockey a lot these days because my boyfriend plays but his been a bit weird these days.... I was kinda looking for him and took a wrong turn somewhere near the arena. Honestly, I get lost everywhere I go." She paused, looking down at her lap, her fingers tracing the rim of her cup. "The worst part asides from my guy, I don't have any friends to chill out with."

“You’re doing the haunted Victorian orphan stare again. You’ve just hurt your ankle, okay?” My lips trembled. “I might lose my scholarship.” Her expression changed. “That fast?” I nodded, my throat choking up. She sat on her bed across from me. “Then we need to get you out of this room before you start thinking yourself into a grave.” I chuckled nervously, shaking my head. “There’s a hockey game tonight,” she said. “North Valley against Redwood. It’ll be loud, violent, and full of people making bad decisions. Perfect distraction.”

God, I was terrified that it was just a dream. “I’m surprised they fell asleep so quickly,” Ben muttered from behind me, and I shrugged, having heard him approaching. He wasn’t exactly stealthy. His joints popped more than a bowl of Rice Krispies cereal. The years of playing hockey had taken its toll on his body. “It’s the adrenaline crash. They will both probably wake up feeling hung over.” I said, getting one last look before closing the door and turning to go downstairs. My chef was in the kitchen, and while he hated me attempting to cook there, I wanted to do something nice for them—under his supervision, of course.

Scantily clad girls eye Owen's chiseled muscles with amusement, their giggles filling the air. And then there's Tim, strutting around with a cocky grin on his face, pushing his gelled blonde hair back with a flourish. Despite his efforts, not a single girl seems interested in him, not even the puck bunnies who usually flock to the hockey players. It's almost comical how oblivious he is to his lack of appeal. Owen, Ant, Tim and Rocky are my roommates, and we've been tight since freshman year in high school, and we all get along for the most part. We all live in The Omen Dorms, the dorms people over-hype.

My mum had assured countless times, she enjoyed cooking and it was a form of exercise since she had nothing else doing but I just didn't want her working herself out. That night, various faces of people featured in my dream as my new roommate. It wasn't a big deal — I know — but it was for me. This was my last year in school so I needed someone that would help me out and not bring me down. I could still remember how my last roommate had disturbed my reading with his ultrasonic music. Each time I complained, he asked that I left the room for the library. According to him, the room was a place of relaxation and not a place to read. I had complained bitterly to Tunde and the rest of the crew b

I was leaning on the bar on my fourth drink scrolling hockey videos of Rowan because I am a glutton for punishment when someone slid onto the stool right next to me. “You again.”

"I told you earlier that they have always been more her friends than mine. And not because I don't like them, but because the ages are different and we have different ideas of what recreation, fun, is." "I see." "Last month, Alexandra told me that she was advertising for a roommate position in her apartment. That she needed someone to talk to, that she was feeling a little lonely. I guess her friends were more distractions than anything else.... And that she needed someone who really understood her. Someone besides me." Emanuele nods and drinks a glass of water while Joshua takes a breath to continue the explanation.
