It’s not an effortless task; my muscles burn by the time I see any light coming from the other end. At the end of the tunnel, the actual cave lies ahead of us. I get on all fours and take a deep breath, inhaling the refreshing scent of earth and water. It seemed to pulse and flicker, as if alive, casting deep shadows across the rough, jagged walls. Jo found it odd but didn’t have an explanation for it, unless it was because this was the queen’s part of the cave. The tunnel opened up into another large cavern, but this one did not appear to be bored through the rock. Rather, it appeared to be a natural cavern. Stalactites and stalagmites reached for one another, though she was never sure which was which. The cave was cast in a strange orangish light that seemed to be coming from the ground, though Jo didn’t see any lights. Vampires were tricky creatures, though. Who knew how they’d managed to make the room look illuminated without actually putting in a light fixture.

I chanced a glance at Silas, cursing the poor lighting in the cave as I wondered whether he felt what I had. Silas' grip on my hand tightened as he led me deeper into the cave and I blindly followed him. It was clear he knew the path by heart as he navigated through the cave and I saw a small light peeking from a corner The closer we got the brighter the walls of the cave became until we were standing in the middle of a well-lit cave with what seemed to be...crystal shining light from the walls of the cave.
