He moves so fast I cannot even remember the faces of people I speak to. “Please,” I ask him “Slow down.” My feet ache and my muscles are sore. I have long since dropped the flowers on some random table, hoping silently they would burn and take the building and everyone in it. My fingers grasp onto a glass and I gulp down water quickly, my throat parched from flimsy small talk. The wedding will be in the papers. I can see the headline now- Two Crime Families Put Aside Differences; I knew the papers would sell quickly. Crime sold. I would know. The crash was spectacular. Elias’s sedan plowed through the rail, tumbling down the three-hundred-foot ravine before hitting the jagged rocks below. Within seconds, a pre-planted incendiary device triggered. A fireball roared up the cliffside, the heat so intense it distorted the air and turned the interior of the car into a blackened tomb. The Council’s SUV screeched to a halt at the broken rail. The two men in tailored suits stepped out, their expressions unreadable as they stared down at the inferno.

CHAPTER 42- CRASH INTO CHAOS MARVIN POV When I opened my eyes, I didn’t know if they were actually open. Everything was… sideways. There was no up or down. Just pain and a buzzing silence like I was underwater and the world above didn’t care if I surfaced again. When the crash hit, it wasn’t sound I noticed first. It was the weight. It was almost like the air itself had slammed down on me. The steering wheel crushed against my ribs, and my head snapped forward so hard my teeth bit into my tongue. The airbag burst open with a deafening pop, shoving me back into the seat.

I lift the book in the air as I fall against my mattress, and Ashley's name is boldly written at the end of the cover. "Bad Romance..." I mouth as I flip to the first page, my eyes running across the tiny words and I'm only a few minutes in when the sound of my phone interrupts me, and I move to sit up on the bed. Dropping the book to the side, I move off the bed to get my phone and Peter sent me an image.

“That was honestly some real crazy shit out there.” Silvie squealed loudly at the sound of Bia’s ‘whole lotta money’ filling the speakers. “OH SHIT! THAT’S MY JAAAAMMM. LET’S GET THIS FUCKING PARTY TURNT UP, BITCHES!!!” I laughed at her antics, feeling myself relax drastically. I eased up enough to soon forget all about the crazy scare and joined her in singing along as we headed for the club. ***** The new club, Novelty was packed to the brim when we got there. By now, I was so pumped both on adrenaline and alcohol to think about anything other than having a good time.

Bang! My Nimgo crashed straight into the back of a Valterra. A guy with sunglasses and a cigarette in his mouth jumped out, stormed over, and kicked my door. “You broke loser! See the emblem? It’s a Valterra! You’ve got guts crashing your trashy Nimgo into a Valterra!” When I saw the person who got out of the car, my heart sank. Things were exactly as bad as I expected. Straight for Ruby. Without hesitation, I yanked the wheel and floored the gas. The Audi slammed into the side of the truck. The footage exploded with violent shaking. Metal screamed. Glass shattered. The crash boomed through the speakers. Then, in the final second, my voice barely whispered: "Take care of yourself." The screen went black.

The reception hall was in shambles, and banners demanding repayment hung everywhere. I stood at the street corner, staring at the building until my eyes burned. From the age of 25 to 35, I had poured my youth, my prime years, into this place and its owner. I had pulled it back from the edge of bankruptcy, cleared its debts, and grown its revenue to nearly a billion dollars a year, preparing it for an IPO. In this very building, I had vowed to dedicate my life to it, to guard its owner forever. Yet in the end, it had all collapsed back to the edge of ruin, and both its owner and I were left as nothing but history.

With my car parked on the side of the road, I was just about to send my boyfriend, Harrison Leach, a text when I got rear-ended. "Harry, my mom's flying in late. I'm waiting for her outside the airport. I know you're working overtime, so you don't have to worry about us. Just focus on your work." I didn't even get to press send before a loud bang rang out. The force from the collision bumped my car several yards forward. Even my phone flew out of my hands.
