A pause. “Before she becomes unstoppable.” The wind shifts. Softly. Almost gently. Carrying their words into the darkness between trees. Unheard by those they fear. Unseen by those they betray. "Stop mentioning our pup! You don't deserve to!" Dad turned pale instantly. "Did you just make me drink a termination potion?" He suddenly clutched his chest and curled up on the table, looking as if he was in pain. He kept shouting, "No! My mate bond… Sandy, don't leave me!" Mom didn't even look at him. She turned and left the prison. I followed Mom happily, leaving Dad behind with no regrets. I watched Mom pull herself out of her grief. She gradually began to reclaim her life, and she made many new friends.

“There will be no undoing. She burned every bridge she had. You can see it in the silence that follows her name. No one wants to risk being tied to her again.” I listened, my fingers resting lightly against the rim of my glass. For months, her name had been a wound. Now it was only an echo. “Do you feel relief?” Lena asked, turning to me. “Or does it feel empty?” I considered the question. “Both. Relief, because the battles are over. Empty, because so much of my life had been wrapped around fighting.
