POV: Elena I used to think the most powerful sound in the world was the roar of a jet engine or the thunderous crack of Silas’s Alpha fire. I was wrong. The most powerful sound in the world is the silence of a boardroom after the monsters have all been cleared out.

No flicker. Still… The silence screamed louder than anything else.

Everyone quietened down. The silence was deafening.

Dad stood beside them and said coldly, "Ray made a mistake and must face the consequences. It's too late for you to regret it. Like I said, both of you must be taught a lesson." The drive over to the apartment was filled with an uncomfortable silence. Unasked questions hung in the air like a thick fog. Beads of sweat prickled on the back of the drivers neck as he too was smothered by the tension in the car. The seconds felt like minutes as the road seemed to stretch longer and longer before her eyes. Letting her eyes close, Thea suppressed a sigh as she leant her head against the window, she ignored the drumming of her head against the window as they drove over the bumpy terrain. Until they became silent. A very deafening silence. Why?

This is bad, I sigh inwardly as I feel myself tighten. “Did we die?” She returns to her seat, her eyes still closed and I chuckle. “You’re not getting away from me that easy missy.” I say, smiling as I ruffle her hair and the silence returns.
