Chapter 53 Dine with the Devil Asher's POV The silence of the night was like a thick, oppressive blanket, the kind that weighs down on your chest and stifles every breath. It had been a long journey, one filled with secrets, lies, and betrayal, and I was finally nearing the end. I made my way to the final location after collecting two separate packages. The first stop had been a successful exchange, a mountain of cash handed over for a much-needed brief respite. Now, with everything packed away in my duffel bag, I was headed toward the last meeting.

Joan said but trailed off when they were transported to another memory. This time it wasn't a library but a vast field. Joan immediately recognised the field. It was her place she had seen ash, hazel and Liam. Why was she brought back here? "I have been here before," she said to Alice in a low voice. Alice Turned her head to look at Joan, she could see that her friend Demeanor had changed completely. "Hazel!" They heard a loud scream erupt from behind them. When they turned to see who it was from. They saw Ash, he was on his knees with a woman in his hands. It was exactly as Joan had seen the last time, but this time Hazel was conscious and there was a book in her hands.

But his eyes were clear. "You can't." Grayson frowned. "Explain." Frank swallowed. "The Stone Circle lies beyond Hollow Fang territory." "So?" "So," Frank said quietly, "there's only one route." Silence. "The Ashen Pass." Caius stiffened instantly. "No." Frank nodded. "You know it." Caius looked grim. "Yes." Savannah frowned. "What is the Ashen Pass?" Nobody answered immediately. Finally Caius did. "A graveyard." Silence. "The final battlefield of the Blood Wars."

"Mrs. Lawson bought a flight ticket to Idani today." Yoel finally smiled, and he told Henry to book him a ticket for the same flight immediately. "That's right. Felicity has always wanted to check out an art exhibition with me. I'll just have to comfort her a little!" He walked out the door as he spoke, and he was gone from the surveillance footage in just ten seconds. I turned my phone off and took out the SIM card, throwing both the card and the phone in the trash can nearby. I figured I wouldn't need them anymore.

Slowly, I allowed a sliver of lightning to dance along its edges, watching as the parchment caught fire. The flames consumed the letter quickly, reducing it to ash in seconds, and I let the remains fall to the table in a blackened heap. Ashes. Just like everything else in this cursed palace. I stormed out of the throne room, my footsteps heavy and my thoughts darker than the night itself. The halls were quiet, too quiet, and every echo of my boots against the stone reminded me of how alone I truly was about to become.

“What? You're not serious. There's no way that's happened already. They'll talk, they'll mend. The end.” Susan shrugged. “I'm sure they will.”

He has been wanting to do this for a while now. The cold night wind showed no mercy to the ashes. It picked them up and carried them toward the gates. Not a single trace of them was buried. “Their names wouldn't be mentioned again," Asher said with a loud voice, jolting the crowd. “This should sound as a warning to anyone who intends to repeat their actions, no one would be spared,” he said with an air of finality.

The operation that had been running for more than ten years was over before breakfast on a Tuesday. I thought about Ashley waking up to that news. I pictured her standing at her window, watching as the thing she had been fighting for so long finally ended. I hoped she was okay. I knew she probably wasn’t okay in a simple, clean way. She is too honest for that. She does not pretend relief when she has not fully felt it yet. She would understand the cost of everything that happened. She would feel all of it.
