He swung around and met the persistent stance of the young woman, arms folded across her chest; her gaze held more authority this time. What was her game now? “I beg your pardon, but it’s none of your concern where I choose to dally.”

She turned, and to her surprise, it opened softly. Inside it, was another key, large and gold. “Take it,” he said. “It belongs to you.” Caitlin reached in and took the key, her mind racing. It was heavy, smooth. She could feel an incredible power coming off of it. “It is one of the four keys,” the man said. “Only you can find the other three. When you have all four, you will meet your father. And he will give you the Shield. “You are on a very sacred mission,” he added. “You must find him. For all of us.”

I say to the alpha, knowing if he fights then his men will be loyal and fight and die with their alpha. He stands there growling for a moment, before slowly turning walking away, not risking the lives of the rest of his people when it's clear that this isn't a fight that they will win. I watch as his men follow him through the thick trees. I know him walking away in defeat is a big blow to his ego, but as an alpha male, he made the right decision to put his people first above his need to avenge his brother. I watch him as he makes his way through the trees, knowing they won't be attacking us again. They no longer have the numbers to take us on.

If even one of them were a one, I’d lose. She scoffed. “What a joke. Did you learn that trick from some internet tutorial?
