He was not reading — his book was open on his knee but he had not turned a page in twenty minutes. "You're not reading," I said. "No," he said. "Tell me what you're thinking about," I said. He closed the book. Set it on the coffee table. Looked at the city outside the windows for a moment. "The future," he said. I waited. "Specifically the foundation," he said. "And where we are. And what comes next." He paused. "And you." "Me specifically," I said.

Thea didn’t really want to die just because Anthony was pissed off at Ted. Thea sat down at the desk in the corner, pulling out the graphic novel she was close to finishing. A tale of a woman who discovers she has the power to see the future, the story had gotten dark and twisty with each panel that Thea drew. She’d intended this particular story to be one volume, but the story had expanded so much that Thea could see multiple volumes in the future.

Choosing which to read was a pleasing difficulty. He shook the eight ball with one hand, smiling. “What’s it going to be?” he whispered, running his other hand along the spines of books on his tightly packed shelf. “Some ghost stories, today?” The white polyhedron, suspended in liquid turned murky with age, jiggled as it revealed: Future is Hazy. John chuckled as he returned his attention to the books before him. “Story of my life,” he whispered. “Story of my . . . ”

he said. "Okay, let's do this. Who knows, that third book is already on its way," Cela said. Hyun's eyes grew bigger. Thankfully, they are just talking on the phone and Cela can't see how excited he is to hear the news first hand from her. Tomorrow will be perfect.
