“A part remained to bury the bodies; the rest are with me.” At this moment Sir Novoveski raised his head, and great astonishment was reflected on his face. “In God's name, what do I see?” cried he. Then he rose, went straight to Mellehov, and said, “Ardun! And what art thou doing here, ruffian?”

Lena stumbled back as the first of the dead pulled itself free, hollow eyes glowing with unnatural green Lena's breath hitched as more skeletal figures emerged, their bodies wrapped in tattered remnants of what might have once been armor or ceremonial robes. The green fire in their hollow eyes pulsed in time with the Rift's energy inside her, a silent call that sent an unnatural chill down her spine.

They surged from every crack in the pavement, every scorched tree, every forgotten root buried under Dust Bowl. They wrapped the Giant from toe to crown.

Once Hayley made the jump, he followed without hesitation. The moment they landed, the rooftop door of the building they had just left was blown open. About five zombies burst through the metal door with guttural cries, staggering toward them. These zombies were not quite the same as the ones Hayley had seen outside.
